ABOUT FIVE RIVERS TROUT UNLIMITED
The Five Rivers Chapter of Trout Unlimited (Chapter #451) was founded in 1984 and is based in Durango, Colorado. Our name comes from our mission of protecting five major local rivers: originally the Dolores, Animas, Piedra, Florida and Pine. With the chartering of our sister chapter, the Dolores River Anglers, which has taken over stewardship if the Dolores Rivers watershed, Five Rivers Chapter has added the San Juan River watershed to the chapter’s stewardship.
The chapter has over 225 members and we strive to create a healthy, participatory organization with a level of diversity and inclusivity that reflects the communities we serve.
While the Animas River runs through town, we also live close to hundreds of miles of pristine wilderness streams, rivers and lakes. Our area contains numerous streams that hold native Colorado River Cutthroat trout, including the re-discovered San Juan lineage sub-specie of the Colorado River Cutthroat. One of our main efforts is to protect these watersheds and to add even more habitat for these fragile species.
OUR MISSION
The Mission of the Five Rivers Chapter of Trout Unlimited is focused on conserving, protecting and restoring the coldwater fisheries through chapter and member activities, advocacies and common goals.
OUR VISION
To ensure that current and future generations can enjoy healthy fisheries and allow robust populations of native and wild coldwater fish to continue to thrive by protecting the quality of the watersheds.
